TID Clinic in Bobcaygeon 1

throw it down girls wakeboard clinics_02

Our first clinic to take place at The Wake Institute in Bobcaygeon was a huge success!  The girls arrived bright and early for their yoga warm up on the lawn and then hit the lake. It was a nice sunny weekend and we spent the majority of the day behind the island in the nice calm areas. The girls killed it… landing front side and back side 180s and some girls even attempted their first inverts… props to you!  A big special thanks to Buckeye Marine for letting us use their wonderful Mastercraft X2 demo boat, and to Andy Campbell from Definitive Riding Apparel for taking all the photos of our clinic. He got some really great shots. (more…)

Wakest

wakest 3

Wakest was the event of the summer, it drew the biggest crowd  in Québec city. This was the first year we had a girls category and lots of ladies came out to represent! The set up was huge  3 pools full of water with two rails along the way, a flat bar and a big aframe followed by a kiker at the end . The after party was a lot of fun on the beach with the dg champion and beatsnuts.

Aqua Jam was in Drummondville on a very sunny day but also really windy, the lake was rellay crowded so the riders had to tough it out through the rollers. Aqua Jam was a boat contest and the riders had the choice to hit a up flat rail and every girl hit it!

Danielle Boyd

Danielle Boyd

Name: Danielle Boyd

Birthday: Jan 15, 1988

Seasons Competing: 5-6?
Sponsor shout out: River City Marine in Kamloops, Hyperlite Wakeboards
Hometown: 100 Mile House BC

Current residence:
Vancouver BC
Board set up: Hyperlite Syn with Murrays

Where is your riding crew based out of? 100 Mille House BC with Craig Powell and all the local crazies.  Vernon BC with Matt Bibby and Dustin O`Ferrall. James Balzer always seems to be around too.

What is your favourite thing about wakeboarding?
The People!!! I can`t even begin to explain how many amazing people and friends wakeboarding has given me.

Where is your absolute favourite place to ride? At home at good ol` Green Lake – where it all started.

Favourite Trick: Grabbing anything.

Favourite Rider: Love Erika for her riding steeze and also for being such an amazing ambassador for girls who ride! Love to watch Dusty, Balzer, Bibby, Oli.

Favourite Animal: My puppyy – Indie!

Favourite Music: Right now: The Ting Tings, Dragonette, Lady GaGa, Shiny Toy Guns, The Sounds, Radiohead, The Roots, Mos Def, Talib, MGMT, Lupe Fiasco, Muse, Lykki Li, Kanye, Bloc Party, Chromeo, Hieroglyphics Jay-Z, TI, Justice, MSTRKFT, Kings of Leon, etc. Anything with a good beat to ride to.

What are some of your best results? Two of the last three seasons have been total write offs due to knee injury (torn ACL – twice) so I have just been focusing on getting healthy! I did manage to get a great season in 2007, 2nd in Jr. Women`s at Nationals, and made the Jr. National team. Before that in 2004 4th in Jr. Women`s – Nationals, 1st BC Provincials, and 1st over in Jr. Womens for BC Hyperlite tour.

What are your goals for the riding season? The majority of my riding season will be spent in Brisbane Australia on a University exchange, so I am going to be trying to do some cable riding and improve my rail riding. I am really just focusing on being healthy and not having any more injuries or time outs from surgery!

What are some of your thoughts on female wakeboarding at the pro level? Female riding at the pro level has witnessed massive improvement in the last couple of years. Before there were a select few who were just competing amongst themselves, and now there are quite a few more girls who have come to give them a run for their money. I love it. We gotta keep it up!

How do you feel about the Canadian female wakeboard scene?? The Canadian female wake scene is blowing up. There are so many new names out there. We still gotta get it bigger, but it is so sick how so many girls are getting more and more involved. It is intimidating to have to do so much while being compared to the boys. Stuff like this website and all girls camps are helping more and more girls get out and not have to worry about being compared to the boys. It is helping the scene blow up!

What are your future plans with wakeboarding? I want to stay involved with wakeboarding for as long as I can. All my life. Right now I am going to university so it is kind of on the side until I can get myself a good job that will let me stay involved. Once I have my degree I plan on going super hard again with wakeboarding and see how far I can take it, whether it is with riding, coaching, judging or just coming out to support.

What is the steeziest trick you have ever seen? I love Dustin`s Indy tantrums.

Craziest thing you have ever done? Tried Wakeboarding! .

Props to anyone?
My family absolutely. They have been there every step of the way. Financially and in every other aspect. My Dad is always game to drive me for a set even when he walks in the door from work. My amazing friends without them I wouldn’t be where I am. Craig Powell for kicking my butt whenever I am being a wimp, getting me into wakeboarding and just being like a big brother to me. Matt, Dustin and Balzer – the best coaches ever and ever better friends. The entire Bibby family for always having a bed for me to crash in and being so supportive. Erika for being a huge influence to women’s wakeboarding. Ellen and Lieffers at Wakeboard Canada for giving me an amazing opportunity. John Simpson at River City Marine for helping me out with gear and being a great support. Everyone who has ever taken me for a set or put on an event. Thank you all so much! If I forgot someone I am sorry and I thank you too!!
