Making Wakeboarding a Little More Ladylike

It’s hard to imagine a time when the freedoms and opportunities we now take for granted were just a dream. These days women can do pretty much anything without much resistance, but without the determination and passion of a few fierce women to break the ice, none of it would be possible.

Although equal participation and opportunity for girls in the sport of wakeboarding may not be as important as something like the right to vote, it’s still an area where old habits die hard. Maybe it’s partly because of a lack of encouragement and opportunity from the industry, and partly because of a lack of confidence and initiative from the girls, but whatever the reason, female wakeboarders are overshadowed by the boys when it comes to sponsorship, participation, competition categories/prizes, exposure, and hype in general. This is why, like those passionate women before us, the ladies behind Throw It Down.ca are putting their thoughts into action in an attempt to bring women’s wakeboarding in Canada up to speed with the boys.

With sections like news and events/clinics, we can keep you in the loop about wakeboard hype and opportunities going off in the area and hopefully get a larger turnout to all the events and clinics happening this season.

The Shredders page is your opportunity to meet female wakeboarders of all levels, from the ones making a splash in the pro circles, to the ones making ripples on our local lakes.

Whether it’s reading articles, browsing the photography, or keeping up to date on all things women’s wakeboarding, this site aims to inspire girls to get out on the water and to support those who are already throwing it down all over Canada and the world.
